It is best to eat something within a couple of hours of your treatment. Wear something comfortable and loose, or bring a change of clothes. Do not wear perfume, some of our clients are very sensitive to smells. Acupuncture can lower your blood pressure, if you normally have low blood pressure, be sure to hydrate well and take your time getting up from the treatment. When you arrive for your first treatment you will fill out a comprehensive health history form. The practitioner will ask some questions related to your health and may look at your tongue and take your pulse. These are traditional Chinese diagnostic methods which help in making a diagnosis of your condition.
When you enter the treatment space, be aware that it is a quiet space. Please use our indoor voice and absolutely no talking on cell phones. Treatments usually last about 1 hour, a little longer for new patients. If you have time restrictions let us know ahead of time so we can be sure to take your needles out promptly.
Please do not come for treatment if you have a signs of cough, fever, runny nose, sore throat, body aches.
What should I do after a treatment?
After your acupuncture treatment you most likely will feel very relaxed, it may feel like an altered state if your body is not used to the kind of deep relaxation that acupuncture stimulates. You may feel energized soon after, or you may feel like going home and napping. Whatever happens is your bodies own healing mechanism. We suggest no vigorous exercise after a treatment, gentle yoga or a walk is ok. Drink lots of water, acupuncture can stimulate a detox or healing response. Avoid alcohol, coffee and cigarettes. Treat yourself well afterwards, acupuncture stimulates your bodies own healing mechanisms so don't negate the effects by doing stressful things to your body, mind and digestive system.
Sharon is knowledgable, sensitive, and friendly. She has helped me significantly with pain management. I appreciate that she has a sliding scale, and make acupuncture more available to the community. Monterey Community Acupuncture is a great resource! Donna K.
Suzi and Sharon at Monterey Community Acupuncture are fantastic. I've been receiving acupuncture for many years for infertility, sciatica, pregnancy, labor, and overall wellbeing. I moved to Monterey recently and found MCA. I'm so glad I did. During pregnancy i slept better, had less back and sciatic pain and my baby and I were both very healthy. I also attribute my natural and healthy delivery to the acupuncture treatments helping baby and I prepare for the stresses and pain of labor. My mother and husband also sought treatment with MCA. I can't recommend them highly enough for their professional, wise, and compassionate care! Caitlin
First appointment with Sharon! She was very knowledgeable and efficient! Thank you so much! My pain was decreased in just the first appointment by over 70%. I definitely recommend you give her a try! Tina W.
I have used acupuncture in the past - this experience was different only because of the "community" setting - however - Sharon tuned into my various issues methodically. I felt so at ease with her in charge - This is certainly an excellent choice for value and care on the peninsula. I loved having the choice of being in a chair as opposed to a table too! The ease of online appointment booking is super - the system for payment and checking in, very very good. If you've benefited from acupuncture in the past, Sharon is a great reason to come back! I find it amazing how much one treatment can begin to heal, knowing it is up to me to do the rest. I take comfort knowing there is somewhere I can go for this healing. Thank you. Jennie B.
1st experience excellent! Sharon does a fantastic job, she is thorough, answered all my questions, and put me at ease with the needles. I highly recommend her service! Look forward to returning. Sharon J.
