How Does Acupuncture Work?
Acupuncture is a holistic medical system that has been used for thousands of years. Hair thin needles are inserted at specific locations on the body which send signals to the brain to stimulate blood, oxygen, hormone and nutrient flow through the body.
The main reason we have chronic pain in the body is a lack of blood flow and circulation to the area. The blood carries all the essential healing nutrients the body needs to fix itself, oxygen, anti-inflammatory agents, immune cells, hormones all travel via the blood. Acupuncture helps stimulate the blood flow through the body so it can repair itself. Acupuncture also stimulates the release of endorphins and enkephalins, which help regulate your bodies response to pain.
Often acupuncturists will refer to "Qi", and the flow of Qi through the acupuncture channels or meridians. Qi is often mistranslated simply as energy, where as the correct translation is "vital air" or oxygen, as we now know it. There are different kinds of Qi that travel through the body, some that have to do with immune function or the nutrition we derive from our food.
